Desde a criação do sistema Android a Google e os demais desenvolvedores vem sofrendo um dilema: o sistema vem sendo desenvolvido depressa demais enquanto a capacidade de adoção às novas versões é ainda muito baixa. O Android série 2.x apareceu quando o Android 2.0 Eclair tinha acabado de ser lançado no final de 2009 . Por volta do final de 2010, Froyo e Gingerbread (Android 2.2 e 2.3) foram lançados e continuaram a ser as versões dominantes utilizadas até hoje e isso cria uma fragmentação gigantesca e monstruosa. Desde então, a Google lançou o Android 3 (Honeycomb) , Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) e o Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Mas é bem provável que um telefone Android que você comprar hoje venha com a versão 2.2 ou 2.3 sendo atualizável para o sistema posterior (o que é difícil).
Mas o real problema da Google é que a empresa precisa encontrar um meio de convencer fabricantes de dispositivos a liberarem atualizações do Android e precisa tornar esse processo mais acessível aos usuários.
E de acordo nossos amigos do AndroidPIT a nova versão do Android Jelly Bean terá 3 diferentes versões para variados layouts : um deles para smartphones, outro para tablet 7 polegadas e outro para tablet 10 polegadas. Já que fragmentação é uma palavra muito usada na comunidade Android, caso sejam confirmadas essas três versões para o Jelly Bean, será que o Google conseguirá sustentar a sua máxima sobre evitar uma maior fragmentação do seu sistema operacional?
Uma interface de telefone ou uma interface tablet?
A notícia chega via Liliputing.com, e eles basicamente explicam que uma nova interface específica foi adicionado ao Jelly Bean para o tablet de 7 polegadas. O Ice Cream Sandwich foi projetado para rodar em ambos: telefones e tablets, e ainda que isso funcione, houveram diferenças notáveis de execução do ICS rodando em telefones e tablets. Muitos especularam que o Nexus 7 tinha uma interface mais para telefone, com alguns programadores indo muito longe com o objetivo de ajustar o software para que tivesse a aparência de um tablet. Mas quando o Computer World perguntou ao Google sobre como seria o layout do Nexus 7, a resposta foi a de que o novo tablet não usaria o mesmo layout do telefone, mas sim um layout projetado especificamente para tablets com um display de 7 polegadas.
O Google deveria se importar com isso?
Pelo o que tudo indica, o Google parece se importar cada vez menos com a fragmentação do seu sistema operacional e, de certa forma, parece estar certo. O Google não criou a fragmentação, foram as OEMs e as operadoras por sentirem a necessidade de uma diferenciação do sistema em seus dispositivos Android. Ao fazer isso, criaram um mercado competitivo, mas será que é mesmo culpa do Google depois de tantos anos e de milhões de dólares que estas empresas fizeram às custas do Android? Afinal, o Google pode atualizar os dispositivos Nexus sempre que quiser? Se os desenvolvedores podem utilizar eficazmente ferramentas de SDK para assegurar uma escala adequada aos aplicativos, deveria o Google continuar implementando novos (e muitos se fazem muito necessários) layouts apenas para incomodar OEMs e operadoras?
Será que o Ice Cream Sandwich é o Windows Vista do mundo Android?
Quando o fenômeno dos netbooks eclodiu, a Microsoft foi forçada a prolongar a vida do Windows XP já que era única versão do Windows capaz de seguir rodando alegremente nesses laptops de menor especificação. O Windows Vista era pesado demais, assim como o ICS exige do hardware uma potência extrema. Ou será que a Google está querendo nos forçar a comprar um Nexus?

Eu vi o Nexus 7 e achei bem estranho. O toque que chega a diferenciar de uma versão de smartphone é que a central de notificações não ocupa a tela toda, mas mesmo assim, ficou esquisito aqueles botões virtuais e mais a barra superior. Em modo paisagem faz lembrar os tablets xing-ling com o 2.3.
